Paul Sanders

BDS (1982), LDSRCS (Eng) Principal Dentist, GDC reg – 57348

I qualified from Guys Hospital Dental School in 1982 and worked for 3 years in Maidstone, Kent, before seeking further hospital dental experience in Peterborough and Bristol. I joined a practice in Royston, where for the next five years I developed my private practice and Denplan ethos.

I founded my share of Melbourn Dental Practice in 1992 and have seen it grow and mature since then. Investment in education and training is proving rewarding as I improve my skills and see a strong support team evolve around me. We are a training practice and have seen eleven dentists and seven dental nurses achieve fully qualified status since 2008, with more currently doing the same.

I keep a strong commitment to Continuing Professional Development and have completed a year long Restorative Dentistry Certificate Course in London, as well as a Postgraduate Certificate in Education from the University of Bedfordshire. Throughout a typical year I engage in excess of 100 hours of verifiable CPD to more than satisfy stringent GDC requirements. This level of professional dedication takes up many evenings and weekends together with the administration of a big practice.

My particular areas of interest are root canal and crown work, as well as general preventative and restorative/cosmetic dentistry. I have also facilitated an increasing amount of implant treatments, as they become more popular with our patient base.

I have lived in Royston since 1987, and am married with three children, and a West Highland White called Freddie. When not directly involved in dentistry, I can be found on the squash court, ski slope and golf course, or, if I get a chance, doing a spot of cooking, my specialities being spicy red cabbage, marmalade, bread sauce at Christmas and Yorkshire puddings!

Principal Dentist, GDC reg – …

I first came to Melbourn Dental Practice as a Foundation Dentist in September 2015 and enjoyed a fruitful year of training in their capable hands. Having experienced hospital dentistry in Brighton for one year thereafter, I found out that not all practices are as pleasent to work in as this one and I was pleased to be able to return as a more experienced dentist in May 2018.

I am currently undertaking an intensive course of study at the world reknowned Eastman Dental Hospital in London and am relishing delivering 21st century care to my satisfied patients.

Lorraine Lawrence

RDN, Practice manager, Dental Health Educator, GDC reg – 124197

I joined Melbourn Dental Practice in 2000, and have been working in dentistry since the age of sixteen gaining vast experience of working in both community and general practice. I qualified as a dental nurse and obtained the National Certificate for Dental Nurses in 1995, then went on to gain a variety of higher qualifications.

As Practice Manager she is the central hub of the practice and ensures all parts of the practice are running smoothly.

I work as a Dental Health Educator and Treatment Coordinator within the practice in a dedicated prevention room. Patients are seen in a non-threatening environment, away from the clinical area, and can talk to me about any aspects of their dental health e.g. cosmetic dentistry without feeling that they have to commit.

Appointments to see me are complimentary for private patients. Dental health advice regarding the daily maintenance of teeth and gums will be tailored to the patients’ needs to help them to develop a programme to ensure good oral health at home in between appointments to see the dentist.

I am also trained to give fluoride treatments as a prevention. This is a treatment referred by the dentist or if you are interested, speak to our reception team.

Lorraine’s role as a mentor for student dental nurses has meant that all nurses at our practice are trained to a high standard. This is complimented by her role as an examiner for both Oral Health Education and the National Certificate in Dental Nursing.

She is a very friendly and caring person who will always go out of her way to help anyone, whether it is a member of staff or a patient.

Outside of work, I keep busy with my Bengal cats and walking my fur babies Gracie and Ruby. I enjoy spending time with my friends and family, especially my grandchildren! I am also studying herbalism and the ancient art of palmistry.
